PROBIOTICS THERAPY IN CLINICAL PRACTICE

We did a 5-month (Feb-June 1998) clinical trial at Jabile Medical Clinic (Phils.) using only OM-X probiotics as treatment for various clinical conditions. The number of patients treated were 149. The patients were treated on out-patient basis and the diagnosis of their condition was based purely on our clinical impression, the reason for this is to see whether probiotics can be used by any medical practitioner in ordinary clinic treating patients on out-patient basis even in the absence of high-tech laboratory and diagnostic facilities. The duration of treatment was 1-2 weeks but the dosage regimen that we used based on our clinical assessment of the severity of the particular clinical disorder

The goal of this clinical trial is to determine the efficacy of using probiotics in the treatment of disorders commonly encountered in clinical practice. The result of our trial was quite impressive, out of 149 patients suffering from different diseases we got an average of 87% efficacy rate. We concluded that the use of probiotics as an alternative natural therapy for common clinical disorders is very effective. We also believe that the choice of probiotics available in the market is also very important. For probiotics to be effective, it should contain the right combination of bacterial strains and also the manufacturer of probiotics product should be able to develop a technology of maintaining the viability of friendly bacteria for a prolong period of time.
