Deficiencies of Essential Fatty Acids (EFA)

The most significant problem is a marked decline in our consumption of essential fatty acids. Essential fatty acids imbalance has two major consequences. The body uses essential fatty acids to build the membrane of all cells. Lack of essential fatty acids produces cell membranes that are stiff and do not function properly. Essential fatty acids are also used by the body to make a group of super-hormones called prostaglandins (PGs) and leukotrienes (LTs). An imbalance of these super-hormones in the body can distort the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes in the body causing dysfunction or disease.

Insufficient vitamins and essential minerals can lead to health problems. Similarly omitting essential fatty acids in our diet can bring about serious health consequences such as:
  • Heart diseases
  • Hormone imbalance
  • Mental problem
  • Obesity
  • Impotency
  • Liver, kidney malfunction
  • Cancer
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Diabetes
  • Increase in Triglycerides
  • Increase in Cholesterol Level
