What is Essential Fatty Acids (EFA)?

The discovery of essential fatty acids (EFA) and its role in human health was one of the most important scientific breakthroughs of the twentieth century. Research has shown that dietary intake of essential fatty acids and their metabolism within the body play an important role in the prevention of most of the chronic diseases affecting mandkind.

Essential fatty acids are fats that our body cannot produce and are important for human health and without it we will die. Their most immediate function is to hold onto energy until it's needed. Fats also provide the main flavor and texture of foods and allows our bodies to absorb vitamins A, D and E.

The only way for a human to acquire essential fatty acids is to ingest foods or supplements that are rich in essential fatty acids. The source of fat is through our diet - animal or plant. But, the best non-contaminated source is from organically grown plants.
